Oh Snap! There's a Contest at The Monkey House!!
Because it's the holiday season, and all the blogosphere is hyped up about Christmas, I thought it would be fun to do a little photo contest. That's right, I am hoping enough of you will go out of your way to make me feel good by taking a moment to add a photo of your favorite Christmas tree ever. There are two categories: Prettiest Tree and Runner-up (which may be the ugliest tree, or may be the second prettiest tree, or may just be the tree with the most ornaments). Bottomline: two prizes will be given. I ask that the trees actually be ones you took part in decorating or at least drove by and saw with your own eyes (i.e. don't just find something hideous on the interwebs).
The two winning photo submitters will receive a prize valued at roughly $100,000,000,000 (a set of 4 handpainted Martini Glasses and free advertising on my blog for a month - a 150 x 150 size... and I'll help you design your ad if you need a little graphic help). The handpainted martini glasses will be worth a ton of money when I go loco like Van Gogh. Or Picasso. Or Cezanne. Whatevs... they will be priceless 'cause I made 'em.
So add your photo to a blogpost, webpage, your flickr account, or whatever and submit the URL to the linky below. Let's be honest, most of us do not have Martha Stewart trees since we have kids. Handmade popcorn garland, the playdoh ornaments, or in my case, heirloom sticks from the Depression handed down from my grandma (no lie) would not likely grace the cover of Better Homes and Gardens. But I think even my stick-covered tree is pretty. So, anyone can win!
Here are a couple examples:
Ugly Tree - This could win a prize!! |
Beautiful Tree
Um, yeah. If this is your house, you get both prizes.
The contest is open until December 20th at 9am, at which point judging will begin. The winners will be notified by email and will be featured in December 21st's WTF Friday post.
If you have any questions, you are taking this way too seriously. But feel free to email them to me anyway. I love emails. Especially when they aren't trying to sell me Cialis or anabolic steroids. Neither of which I have any use for. Bourbon and Zanax... that's another story.
Oh thank you! Now I know that somewhere at the North Pole there's an elf named "Gonads"..... insert chestnuts joke here.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog. Just wanted to say I like the layout and I enjoyed this post. If you get a chance check me out. I look forward to connecting with you.
ReplyDeleteJae Mac, I'm Just Sayin'...(Damn!)
I wish I could concentrate on your writing, but those people on the side bar won't shut the F#@% up. As if the voices in my head weren't bad enough... ;)
ReplyDeletePS...I see a red curtain theme! ;) I'm off to take my tree pictures.
DeleteThere does appear to be a red curtain theme, huh? I think I am going to put one up behind my tree.
DeleteAnd you're right! I got attacked by an ad today reading one of my own posts (um, yeah... I do that ;/ I gotta figure out how to get those ads removed. They are a PITA!!
ha! I love your red star - I have one too - it's a huge thing here in New England - I'd love to know where you got yours!
DeleteThis is a FAB idea lady! LOVING the entries so far!
ReplyDeleteIs YOURS up yet??? Did you hear about the prizes?? Come on, girl!!! Post your pic!
Deleteargh, i really want to enter but my tree is so...in the middle. it's got a charlie brown thing going but unless a holiday reveler experiencing a failure of imagination, i think one might see the appeal. hm.
ReplyDeletegoing to the store for icicles. then? a picture, three monkeys!
Post your picture!!! Sad Charlie Brown or not. There is always a special place in everyone's heart for those. It may be the winner because of it!
DeleteWorst case scenario, stick an elf on it. Or a furby. I hear those things are popular this year.
And thanks for stopping by! Now post your pic :)
my thumbnail didn't show up but it linked to the picture :-(. Still, that really and truly is my Christmas tree this year. My apartment is the size of some people's closets. Rich people's closets probably, but a closet nonetheless and this one can follow me to any of my two rooms!
ReplyDeleteI think your "tree" is going to be tough to beat :) Too bad the thumbnail didn't come up... or I guess not. People would be afraid to post theirs out of fear they would never have a chance to win.
DeleteI LOVE it!! And thanks for posting!!
Ok, as soon as I put up my tree post, I'll link up.
ReplyDeleteI love the mention of taking this too seriously and asking questions. ha!
ReplyDeleteI would just like to point out the 'homemade' ornaments on my tree. The best is at the top - it's a piece of junk mail (a credit card application) that one of the two year olds put stickers all over and then told me it had to go at the top of the tree.
And the purple ribbon - that's to tie it to the window lock so the same two year old doesn't pull the tree over. Again.
SWEET! This is a "living" Christmas display! I wonder what it will look like by the time you take it down? My kids start by putting their toys on the tree, and by New Year's, we're missing about 90 ornaments because they are confiscated by one of the children for an impromptu Ornament collection. Really? You want a bunch of glitter balls? Why did I buy all this Lego stuff? Why???
DeleteAfter the boy's first xmas, I was taking down the tree and I found like 5 soy sauce packets in it (yes we had Chinese, or "Jewish Christmas" that year).
DeleteI submitted my pic of our Family Christmas tree. I am using the term family loosely because the tree is FOR the children, decorated (and redecorated..and desecrated)BY the children. I won't share with you how many shots it took just to get a picture of the blinking thing with all the lights on at the same time!
ReplyDeleteLoving your blog so far..I think we might be twins because except for the drinking alot..you described me ;o)
HI Tracy! So glad you stopped by! And I'm so glad you entered the contest! It is a fun little thing that will surely become a regular feature. Perhaps on Easter, we'll do a "Hamming it up" photo contest, where everyone will have to submit dinner photos. That could get gross. We'll see...
DeleteAnd I LOVE trees that are "living" pieces of art (i.e. kind of a hot mess because the kids love it so much). That's what Christmas is all about!
I'll be blog stalking you now ;)
P.s. I am here via One Classy Motha and it is feeding my photo contest addiction ;o)
